Our athletes commit to their goals and make healthy lifestyle choices every day at Foxcroft and Razorback CrossFit. They become healthier, stronger, quicker, and develop their overall fitness because of their determination and hard work. This incredible group of athletes in our growing community is devoted to helping each other and themselves become better each day. As coaches, we feel extremely privileged to have the opportunity to work with so many like-minded, hardworking athletes to achieve their goals.
For our May installment of our Member Spotlight, we introduce Ricky Brown. Ricky started CrossFit the beginning of February 2016. He and his wife wanted something they could do together to get in shape. "Like most people, I sit at a desk all day and you do not realize how quickly you can get out of shape!"
Do you remember what your first CrossFit workout was?
"I don't remember the exact workout we did at the first CrossFit class. But, I do remember how out of shape I felt when the class was over. I saw other people getting through the workout a lot more easily than I did. That feeling is what made me want to continue with CrossFit."
What do you like most about CrossFit?
"I like having a group of people to work out with. Before CrossFit I would try to workout with other people but it was hard to schedule times that worked for both of us and after a few weeks we wouldn't be working out anymore. I also like having a fitness instructor there to make sure that I'm doing the exercises correctly and motivate me when I'm tired. I have enjoyed all of the instructors that I have had class with, but most of my classes have been with Ben. He was there at my first class and has helped me tremendously with his knowledge and positive attitude!"
What is your favorite exercise or workout?
"When I first started CrossFit, my favorite exercise was bench press because that was the only one I was pretty good at. Now, I'm starting to like power clean because my technique and mobility have improved so much over the past few months."
What changes have you noticed since you’ve started CrossFit?
"Besides the fact that I have lost weight and toned up, my flexibility has greatly improved."
What goals have you accomplished and what are your next goals you are working towards?
"My first goal I set and reached in CrossFit was to do 5 unassisted pull ups. Now I'm working on squatting lower which will help me in several different weight training exercises."
How has CrossFit helped you in your everyday life?
"Outside the gym, I have more energy and I'm in a better mood since I have started CrossFit. Before CrossFit, I was not motivated to workout, now I feel like I missed out if I don't go to class almost everyday."
What advice would you give to someone new to CrossFit, or someone who is thinking about joining?
"For the people who are thinking about starting CrossFit, I would tell them to not be intimidated. There are people at all different fitness levels in the classes."
