Our athletes at Foxcroft and Razorback CrossFit commit to accomplishing goals that they set and to make healthy lifestyle choices everyday. Their determination and hard work is displayed as they become healthier, stronger, quicker, and improve their overall fitness. This incredible group of athletes in our community is devoted to helping each other and themselves become better each day. As coaches, we feel extremely privileged to have the opportunity to work with so many like-minded, hardworking athletes to achieve their goals.
For the October installment of our Member Spotlight, we introduce Jeremy McNabb. Jeremy started CrossFit in April of 2014 after visiting with two close friends that had recently taken CrossFit up and couldn't stop talking about it.
Do you remember what your first CrossFit workout was? What were your thoughts after it?
"My first workout of the day (WOD) was 5 rounds of 25 wall balls and hill sprints. After that first WOD, I remember thinking, "If my lungs work tomorrow, I think I'll come back and try it again.""
What do you like most about CrossFit?
"The camaraderie of the CrossFit community. I know everyone says it, but it is because it's true. The spirit of friendship and community in the group makes you want to not miss class and helps make difficult workouts easier."
What is your favorite exercise or workout?
"I like push-ups and bench press just because I'm decent at them. I'm pretty pitiful in most other exercises. I'm getting better though, and that's what counts!"
What changes have you noticed since you’ve started CrossFit?
"I'm not getting injured exercising as much since I started CrossFit. Before CrossFit, I focused almost exclusively on cardio. It seems like I was always battling injury. The strength training during CrossFit helps keep me from the nagging injuries. Most of the injuries I see fellow CrossFitters deal with come from exercise activity away from the CrossFit gym."
What goals have you accomplished and what are your next goals you are working towards?
"The number one goal I've accomplished since starting CrossFit is being more consistent in working out. Before CrossFit, I would run hot and cold. Meeting with others to workout keeps me accountable. My next goal is to focus on getting stronger through strength training. I think it's doable since I'm pretty weak to begin with."
How has CrossFit helped you in your everyday life?
"The benefits from CrossFit transfer easily to other aspects of life. A more positive attitude, desire to eat healthier, and coping with life's stressors are benefits I noticed almost immediately."
What advice would you give to someone new to CrossFit, or someone who is thinking about joining?
"I would challenge anyone thinking about trying CrossFit to attend 3 classes in one week. I think lots of people hear horror stories about how difficult CrossFit is and how anyone and everyone that does it gets hurt. That has not been my experience. The coaches are awesome at assessing everyone's fitness level and modifying the workout or exercise accordingly."
